Donald Lytle was drawn from farm life at 17 to serve his country in World War II. As part of the U.S. Army’s 75th Division, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded in action and later honored with the Purple Heart and the French Legion of Honor for his heroism.

Recognized for his mechanical skill, Don served as a military equipment mechanic, restoring vital vehicles for the Allied effort. It was during this time he met his future wife, Janine Mangin, at an Army-sponsored dance in France—a partnership that would last 73 years.

After the war, Don brought the same dedication and work ethic to civilian life in Oregon and Idaho, farming, building, and repairing machinery that supported his community. He continued serving through volunteer work with NNU, Nampa Civitan, and as Grand Marshal of Nampa’s Parade America in 2023. We are so thankful for his personal donation and support prior to his passing. His son Carrie is continuing that support for Youth to learn the vital lessons on a Healthy Lifestyle.
